Siena Men's Basketball Wins MAAC, Advancing to March Madness

Never count out an underdog. Despite entering the tournament as the No. 3 seed, the Siena Saints silenced the skeptics on Tuesday, March 10, toppling top-seeded Merrimack 64-54 in a thrilling matchup.
Despite initially being down, the Saints were able to quickly score against the Warriors and stay on top for the remainder of the game. The team's starting unit took charge, accounting for all 64 points, with Gavin Doty reaching a game-high 23 points!
This victory marks the Saints' first title since 2020 and their seventh MAAC trophy overall, moving them into second place for the most MAAC championships in league history.

Olive & Oregano: The New 24-Hour Spot for Post-Event Cravings at MVP Arena

Get ready for the newest late-night craving spot, Olive & Oregano! Located within walking distance of MVP Arena, this Dominican-Greek takeout spot will be open at any time of the night.
The owner, Flerida Santana Johnas, purposefully chose this location in downtown Albany to cater to the many residential and office buildings, as well as the arena.
She told News10 ABC that she wants to focus on "...how the city actually functions today, [and provide] reliable access to food throughout the day and night rather than focusing only on limited dining windows."
The signature eats include chicken, gyros, soups, breakfast sandwiches, traditional sides, and other takeout meal options. There will additionally be catering options for offices and events.

'The Gilded Age' Casting Call Brings New Opportunity to the Capital Region

HBO’s hit historical drama 'The Gilded Age' is set to return to the Capital Region for Season 4 filming later this spring, and producers are now casting background actors.
Grant Wilfley Casting is currently seeking Black actors ages 18 and older to appear as 'event guests.' No prior acting experience is required, making this an excellent opportunity for newcomers to get on set and gain firsthand industry experience.
Filming for these roles is expected to take place in Troy on June 9 and 10, with additional production planned throughout Albany and Schenectady. The series has become a familiar presence in the region, transforming local streets into scenes from 1880s New York City.
The production also brings a noticeable boost to the local economy. Past seasons have generated millions in regional spending while showcasing the area’s historic architecture and vibrant communities.
This latest casting call offers residents a chance to be part of a major television production. Whether you're an aspiring actor or just curious about life on set, it’s a rare behind-the-scenes opportunity happening right in the Capital Region.

518 Day Brings a Full Day of Local Fun to Downtown Albany
There’s a new event coming to downtown Albany this spring, and it’s all about celebrating everything that makes the 518 what it is. The first-ever 518 Day is happening on Saturday, May 16, and it’s packed with things to do from morning through the evening.
The day starts off with a 5.18K race and kids’ run, which is a fun way to lean into the whole 518 theme right from the beginning. After that, things shift into a more relaxed, explore-at-your-own-pace kind of day with a vendor village, live local music, and even historic tours if you want to mix in something a little different.
One of the standout parts of the event is the Melba Madness Stroll, where different spots around downtown will be serving up bites featuring melba sauce. You can grab a ticket, try a bunch of different options, and vote on your favorite, so it’s a fun way to get people walking around and checking out local restaurants.
Everything wraps up in the afternoon, but if you’re not ready to call it a day, there’s also an evening event at Quackenbush Square to keep things going.
If you’re looking for something to do that mixes a little bit of everything, food, music, shopping, and just being outside, this is definitely one to check out.
