Sponsored by Albany Vegan Network
Love food festivals and food-centric events? Can’t get enough of delicious fare and great conversation? You won’t want to miss out on Albany VegFest, now entering its 10th year!
Over 50 vendors will be in attendance, you’ll get to see really original presentations and demonstrations, including one from a Black Metal Chef (think black metal music meets vegan cooking), and of course you can’t have a festival without some live music! It’s all happening at the Polish Community Center on Saturday, June 2nd.
The Force Behind VegFest
VegFest is brought to us by the Albany Vegan Network, a nonprofit organization committed to green sustainable living, environmental awareness, and compassion for animals and all beings. The group aims to provide information and support to the local community regarding healthy, environmentally-friendly living choices.
They participate in animal advocacy, do guest speaker presentations, volunteer at animal sanctuaries, present cooking classes, and so much more.
VegFest is their flagship event of the year, that always brings in a solid lineup of exciting individuals, groups, and vendors.
Incredible Demonstrations, Presentations & Panels
The Black Metal Chef will be presenting his unique combination of metal music and vegan cooking for a really informative and entertaining experience. The other presenters are Eric Lindstrom with an ethics presentation, Ginny Messina with a health presentation, and Alex Eaves with an environmental presentation.
Each speaker really brings something special to the table with their respective backgrounds: Eric Lindstrom is the Director for Marketing for Compassion Over Killing and the author of The Skeptical Vegan and The Smart Parent’s Guide to Raising Vegan Kids. Ginny Messina has written 10 vegan books, including Vegan for Life and Vegan for Her.
And Alex Eaves is a “reuse expert” – a certified Master Reuser – who gives talks and leads workshops on the reuse lifestyle. He is behind the documentary REUSE! Because You Can’t Recycle the Planet, which has been nominated for multiple film festivals.
There will also be two panels, an Animal Rights & Sanctuary Panel and a Fitness Panel. The first panel will be led by Bob Comis (who is behind The Last Pig documentary), Susie Coston with Farm Sanctuary, Kathy Stevens with Catskill Animal Sanctuary, and Rachel McCrystal with Woodstock Animal Sanctuary. It will be moderated by Matt Kelly, a founding member of the Berkshire Vegan Network and Berkshire Advocates for Animals.
The Fitness Panel will include Sarah Preston with the Bomb A** Vegan blog; Cam F. Awesome, a National Champion heavyweight boxer, speaker, and comic dubbed “the Vegan boxer;” and Jamie Robinson, a fitness trainer with a number of impressive certifications.
What to Expect From the Wide Variety of Vendors & Entertainment
So many exciting vendors are going to be at VegFest! You can look forward to farm and animal sanctuaries like Broome Animal Sanctuary, Red Robin Song Animal Sanctuary and Beaver Rescue, and Woodstock Farm Sanctuary, food vendors like Field Goods, Hanna’s Meatballs, and Ever Young Natural Foods, and so many more: Green Mountain Energy, Lundberg Family Farms, New York State Humane Association, and the list goes on and on.
For entertainment, Stranger at Home will be performing – they are a three-piece acoustic newgrass band, along with Don Ferlazzo, who is a vegan singer/songwriter and animal advocate.
What You Can Get With a VIP Ticket
The admission to VegFest is simply a $5 donation – you can’t beat that! – but you may want to opt for a VIP ticket. If so, grab yours today because only 50 are available and they’re going to move quickly. This is a special option for guests that the Albany Vegan Network is offering for the first time this year in honor of the 10 year milestone.
A VIP Ticket is $50 and includes a one-hour early entry into the festival, a custom tote bag stuffed with vegan goodies, four free raffle tickets for great giveaways (more than a dozen products from awesome vegan companies like Vital Eats), and, perhaps most exciting, exclusive access to the VegFest VIP lounge for the entire day. You’ll get to relax, enjoy free snacks and drinks, and mingle with the guest speakers.
Whether you decide to opt for the VIP experience or go with general admission, make sure to mark your calendar for June 2nd!
