Less Than 25 Miles From Albany

Alp’s Family Campground

Alp’s is located east of Albany in Averill Park. The campground, as stated in the name, is very family-oriented, with playgrounds, a swimming pool, a basketball court, softball field, hiking trails, and more. Alp’s offers a variety of sites, including tent sites, RV sites, and camping cabins, all of which include a fire pit, picnic tables, and water/electric hookups. 

Thompson's Lake State Park Campground

Thompson’s Lake Campground is a family-friendly getaway within Thacher State Park. This setting gives the campground a gorgeous backdrop, with plenty of recreational opportunities to enjoy the natural beauty, including canoes, kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, fishing areas, and nature trails. Tent sites and RV sites are both available.

Adventure Bound Deer Run

Adventure Bound Deer Run is a short north of Albany and is one of two Adventure Bound campgrounds in New York. Along with RV hookups, the park offers three different types of cabin rentals and premium RV rentals. The park has tons of activities kids will love, including train rides, a small water park, and several pools!

Woodstock Lake Campground

Woodstock Lake Campground is a quiet, family-friendly summer destination just 24 miles from Albany. Along with all-ages activities in their rec center and fishing opportunities on the lake, families can reconnect with nature and each other as they hike through the hundreds of acres of well-maintained trails the campground has to offer.

Frosty Acres RV & Camping Resort

Frosty Acres is northwest of Albany in scenic Duanesburg, NY. Tent sites, partial and full RV hookups are available at this beautiful spot, along with tons of family-friendly activities. The campground is known for their themed weekends, which take place from May until September. Themes include Halloween, Christmas in July, Carnival, Rock N’ Roll, and more. Even if themed activities aren’t your vibe, there’s plenty to do on your own—visit the beach, take a swim in the pool, go fishing, or play a chill game of horseshoes!

25-50 Miles From Albany

Fox Hill Camping Area

Fox Hill is located right in the foothills of the Berkshires and just outside Spencertown. Visitors have commented on the affordability and quiet atmosphere of the spot, with special mention of the lack of road noise and frequent owl sightings. 

Blind Buck Valley Farmstead

Blind Buck Valley Farmstead is northeast of the Capital Region, near the border of Vermont. The farm offers private glamping sites on a gorgeous, 200-acre farm. The site accommodates up to 16 people and offers everything you need for the perfect getaway. A kitchen and rec area, ample firewood, a fire pit and picnic tables, outhouses and showers, and even guided farm tours, fresh eggs, and an on-site garden. Blind Buck Valley Farmstead gives guests a memorable glamping experience with a personal touch. 

McConchie Heritage Acres Camp

McConchie Heritage Acres Camp is located in Galway, NY, west of Ballston Spa. This campground boasts “something for everyone,” including swimming, fishing, planned activities, playgrounds, sports, and more. The camp is also located close enough to Schenectady and Saratoga Springs for you to make a day trip to either one! 

Saratoga Escape Lodges and RV Resort

Saratoga Escape Lodges and RV Resort is a bit further from Albany, but the drive is totally worth it. When you stay at Saratoga Escape, you’ll have the option to choose between tent, RV, and cabin sites, or, you can even live like royalty at one of their premium glamping sites. Once you venture out of your cozy abode, you’ll have plenty of fun options right in the resort—mini golf, an aqua playground, live music, horse riding lessons, and more! The campground is also located just outside Saratoga Springs, which means you can always take a day to explore the area. But, in all reality, you probably won’t want to leave!

Blue Mountain Campground

Blue Mountain Campground is south of the capital and offers tent sites, RV sites, and cabin rentals. The campground is focused on creating a family-friendly environment, with plenty of things for the kids to do, including an awesome game room and playground, which features a fort, slides, sports fields, and more.

Autumn Moon Campground

Autumn Moon is just west of Great Sacandaga Lake, and this serene location is the perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city. With 30 sites on 100 acres, the campground is quiet and comfortable, perfect for those looking for a chance to reconnect with nature. Autumn Moon Campground is a wooded paradise, and if you love the outdoors but want that family-owned, homey touch, it’s the perfect spot for you.

50+ Miles From Albany 

Lake George RV Park

Lake George RV Park is the ultimate Lake George getaway. The 1-hour drive up I-87 will pass in a flash, because the destination itself is so amazing. Campers of all types will love this spot, because it combines the best of both worlds—relaxing Adirondack vibes with plenty of opportunities to connect with nature, and exciting onsite activities, including free live entertainment at the French Mountain Playhouse, a fully-accessible aquatic park, and multiple pools.   

Devil’s Tombstone Campground

The name may be a little spooky, but this campground is one of the most gorgeous places in the Catskills. Devil’s Tombstone is one of the oldest campgrounds in the Catskill Forest Preserve, and the name comes from a huge boulder that slid down the surrounding mountains and into the campground area centuries ago. This small campground isn’t too far from a variety of attractions, but the main focus for most visitors are the incredible hikes. 

Andelyn Farm

Andelyn Farm is gorgeous—there’s a small mill on property, and it’s conveniently close to Vermont. The farm features several yurts for guests to choose from, along with plenty of sites for tents. Andelyn also has modern bathroom facilities and an on-site shop, free wi-fi, and more. There are limited spots for RVs, so give them a call if you’d like to snag one.

Lake George Escape Outdoor Resort

Lake George Escape Outdoor Resort is a family-friendly resort near Lake George that offers cabins and full-hookup RV sites (which also allow for tent camping). With themed weeks, kids’ crafts, entertainment, and a restaurant and bar on site, this 178-acre campground is sure to become a family favorite.  

Lakeside Campsites at The Irondequoit Inn 

If you’re looking for the perfect Adirondack camping experience, Lakeside Campsites at The Irondequoit Inn is the ideal destination. You can choose from a wooded site or beach site, and while you’re there, you’ll enjoy  hiking trails, fishing opportunities, and more to help you and your family peacefully enjoy the great outdoors. Plus, there are plenty of fire pits and picnic areas to gather around when evening comes.
