What to Expect at Summer at the Plaza

Experience the best of summer in Albany with a spectacular lineup of free community events, festivals, fitness, and food at the Empire State Plaza. Discover this year's signature series:
Major Festivals & Special Events
- Capital Concert Series (Wednesdays, June 10, June 24, July 8, July 15, and July 22): Catch incredible live performances all summer long at the Plaza. This year’s blockbuster lineup features iconic artists including Kansas, Ding Dong, Lawrence, and Ghostface Killah.
- New York State's Fourth of July Celebration (Saturday, July 4): Celebrate Independence Day at the Plaza with a massive celebration featuring headliner Sugar Ray.
- MVP Kids Day (Saturday, July 11): A fun-filled day dedicated to families, featuring a special appearance by Bebefinn™.
- Black Arts & Cultural Festival (Friday, July 31 & Saturday, August 1): A multi-day celebration of culture and music, featuring a powerful Gospel Night with Melvin Crispell, III, Crystal Aikin, and Rich Tolbert, Jr., followed by a Concert Finale starring R&B performer Lloyd.
- New York State United 2026 World Cup Watch Experience (Saturday, June 20): Kick off the tournament excitement with a massive live-streamed family watch party featuring activities and games in West Capitol Park.
- Capitol Park After Dark (Wednesdays, August 19, August 26, & September 2): Cozy up in West Capitol Park for free outdoor movie screenings of cinematic classics, including Notorious, The Goonies, and Arsenic and Old Lace.
- Signature Heritage & Food Festivals (August 12, September 9, & September 19): Don't miss massive annual gatherings like the New York State Food Festival featuring Starship featuring Mickey Thomas (Aug 12), the New York State Hops & Harvest Festival featuring Leftover Salmon (Sep 9), and the Hispanic Heritage Celebration featuring Miriam Cruz (Sep 19).
Lunchtime at the Plaza Music Series

Make the Plaza your midweek destination! Pair live local music with fresh shopping at the popular Empire State Plaza Farmers Market and local food vendors.
- When: Wednesdays, June 3 – August 12, 2026
- Time: 12:00 p.m. – 1:30 p.m. (All performances begin at 12:00 p.m.)
Fitness at the Plaza
Presented by Highmark Blue Shield
Stay active with free, outdoor community workout classes open to everyone regardless of age, fitness level, or experience.
- When: Tuesdays & Thursdays, June 2 – August 27, 2026 (No classes July 28 and 30)
- Time: 5:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
- Location: Cornerstone at the Plaza
- Weekly Schedule: Tuesdays (Yoga with The Hot Yoga Spot) and Thursdays (PHIIT2 with DNA Bodyworx)
- Note: All participants must bring their own exercise mats and towels, and are required to sign a waiver upon arrival.
Summer Food Trucks & Vendors
Enjoy a diverse spread of delicious lunch options available outdoors on the East Roadway. Vendors offer a wide variety of local eats, including pizza, burgers, cheesesteaks, empanadas, fried fish, smoothies, crepes, and more.

Plan Your Visit to the Empire State Plaza
All Summer at the Plaza events are free and open to the public. Convenient parking is available in the surrounding visitor lots, and the site is fully accessible by public transit via the CDTA. Make the most of these spectacular free community traditions all season long!
