A New York-born dessert brand has made its way to the Capital Region. Duchess Cookies recently opened at Crossgates Mall in Albany, bringing its gourmet take on classic desserts to the shopping center.
The new location officially opened September 19, 2026, and is the brand's latest addition as it continues expanding beyond its original Long Island roots.
Duchess Cookies Brings Dessert-Inspired Treats to Crossgates
Duchess Cookies puts a creative spin on a familiar treat by turning the flavors and ideas of popular desserts into gourmet cookies. The company emphasizes high-quality ingredients and says its products are made without artificial flavors, additives, or fake sweeteners.
The brand was created by Sofia Demetriou, who grew up in a family with decades of experience in the baking business. According to Duchess Cookies' website, she began experimenting with baking as a child before developing the concept that would eventually become the company.
“We are so excited for guests to experience the sweet smell of Duchess Cookies’ daily rotating flavors filling the food court,” said Leslie Mugrace, Marketing Director of Crossgates, in Crossgates' press release.
From a Family Baking Tradition to a Growing Brand
What began with Demetriou's family connection to baking eventually grew into a New York-born brand with locations and retail partners in several states. The company's approach centers on taking familiar flavors and giving them a more elaborate, dessert-inspired twist.
Duchess also describes its products as an elevated take on everyday snacking, using ingredients such as fresh fruit, chocolate, butter, and high-quality flour.

The new shop is located on the upper level of Crossgates, toward the back of the food court. Its arrival adds another specialty food option to the mall's mix of shopping, dining, and entertainment.
