Every summer, there are many fun-filled local and county fairs near Albany, NY, that are perfect for Capital Region visitors. Get a breakdown on these annual events and what you can expect at them, such as rides, shows, games, food, music, and more.

Saratoga County Fair

Since 1841, the annual Saratoga County Fair in Ballston Spa has celebrated the region’s agricultural heritage while entertaining visitors of all ages. Highlights include the Amusements of America carnival midway, 4-H livestock shows, truck and tractor pulls, and the crowd-favorite demolition derby.

Highlights include high-flying aerial acts from the Flying Wallendas, Scott's Foam Party, a Fiber Celebration showcasing New York textiles, and living history demonstrations in Conservation Village.

Schoharie County Sunshine Fair

Enjoy summer fun and festivities at the Schoharie County Sunshine Fair in Cobleskill! This fair features thrilling midway rides, tasty fair food, demolition derbies, tractor pulls, and extensive farm animal exhibits. Highlights include grandstand musical performances, live entertainment, and pay-one-price admission that includes unlimited midway rides.

Altamont Fair

Held in the heart of Altamont, this fair highlights agriculture, arts, and entertainment. Fairgoers can enjoy thrilling rides on the Dreamland Amusements midway, explore extensive 4-H livestock competitions and youth exhibits, and take in free family shows included with gate admission. From classic fried treats to daily agricultural demonstrations, it remains a Capital Region summer staple.

Washington County Fair

The Washington County Fair schedule in Greenwich is packed with classic summer traditions. Visitors can explore youth livestock shows, catch demolition derbies and tractor pulls, and ride the Amusements of America midway. Be sure to stop by the popular County Bounty Building to sample local foods, craft beverages, and agricultural products from farms across the region.

New York State Fair

Up for a full day trip? Hop in the car and head to the iconic New York State Fair this summer at the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse, just over two hours from Albany.

Each year, the New York State Fair offers unforgettable attractions for the entire family, including numerous concerts, carnival rides, tasty food, eye-opening exhibits, and more.

Columbia County Fair

The Great Schaghticoke Fair

Capital District Scottish Games

This isn’t a county fair, but it is an event at the Altamont Fairgrounds! The Scottish Games features a variety of activities such as Highland dancing and athletics, a Scottish breed dog show, bands, events for the kids, and more. You can also enter competitions like the pipe band contest, drumming, and Highland dance.
