Christmas isn’t the only “Merry” thing this December in Albany–the newly opened Belgian restaurant Merry Monk located on 90 North Pearl Street opened this month and is ready for business!
Owners of Merry Monk, Jeremy O’Brien and Joe Gorman opened Merry Monk because they wanted to start a business that set them apart from the rest of the Albany restaurants. Their unique Belgian beer and grub do just that!
The Merry Monk is the perfect destination for beer lovers–with over 15 beers on tap, Merry Monk is the new Belgian hot-spot. Some of their unique brews include Ommegang Abbey, Palm, Duvel Single, La Chouffe and Corsendonk Christmas Ale to name a few! What is Corsendonk Christmas Ale? On the palate, this silky smooth ale is predominately malty, smoky, spicy with citrus notes–a long, lingering finish that is lightly tart. That should put you in the holiday spirit, huh?
Mussels or moules, are the national dish of Belgium and Merry Monk’s menu offers six different kinds. Choose from Bleu Cheese & Bacon, Beer Steamed, Meuniere, Chipotle Tequila, Thai Curry or the Monk’s Mussels–sounds absolutely mouth watering to me!
The moules are served with fries or frites and you can choose 2 types of dipping sauces out of the 12 available. The menu offers garlic herb mayo, honey mustard mayo, Tabasco mayo, chipotle mayo, buffalo bleu mayo, coconut curry mayo, wasabi mayo, pesto mayo, horseradish mayo, cranberry mayo, bbq mayo or sun dried tomato mayo. Sounds like a party in your mouth…
