Travel Through Schenectady Using the CDTA's Trolley Service

Trolleys are an ideal mode of transportation when you're traveling through cities, and the Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA) offers multiple trolley services in New York's Capital Region. In recent years, the CDTA has operated an Electric City Trolley in Schenectady, but as of May 16, 2021, they have kicked off a new Schenectady Greenmarket Trolley.

Schenectady Greenmarket Trolley

On Sunday, May 16, 2021, the CDTA launched the new Schenectady Greenmarket Trolley in partnership with the Schenectady Greenmarket, City of Schenectady, and Highmark Blue Shield of Northeastern New York. This free trolley service is a convenient way to get to the Schenectady Greenmarket and all of its local products and produce.

The Schenectady Greenmarket's summer season runs from April through October, and it is open on Sundays from 10:00am-2:00pm outside City Hall. The trolley service will be in operation every Sunday from 9:30am-2:30pm during this outdoor market. Rides are approximately 25 minutes long, depending on weather and traffic.

This trolley provides easy access to: Schenectady Greenmarket, Tribute Park, the YMCA, and Mont Pleasant Library. You can view the full list of stops on the Schenectady Greenmarket website.

Electric City Trolley

Editor's Note (5/25/2021): Please note that the CDTA's Electric City Trolley is currently on hold due to COVID-19. We will update this section when there are changes.

During a typical year, the Electric City Trolley is the best way to get around downtown Schenectady because the trolley brings passengers to Mohawk Harbor, restaurants, and entertainment destinations. The route includes:

  • Mohawk Harbor
  • Schenectady Public Library
  • Hampton Inn & Suites
  • Rivers Casino
  • The Stockade
  • Amtrak Station
  • Proctors
  • Little Italy
  • State Street
  • Lower Union Street
  • Double Tree Hotel
  • Courtyard Marriott
